What the work runs through
A production passes through the same disciplines whether it is a film, a commissioned video or a programme. These are the stages the company plans for and accounts for on any job.
- Development
- Turning an idea into something that can actually be scheduled and shot: the outline, the treatment, and the practical questions of where, when and how.
- Production
- Schedules, call sheets, locations and permissions, and the day-to-day running of a shoot, so that the plan survives contact with the day.
- Camera
- Framing, lensing and lighting decided in service of the cut that has been planned, not as a set of handsome shots that will not join up.
- Sound
- Clean dialogue and usable atmosphere recorded on location, then laid, balanced and finished against picture.
- Editorial
- Assembly, cut and conform: shaping the material to the agreed running time and locking it so that finishing can begin.
- Grade
- Setting contrast and colour so that shots cut together and the piece holds one look from first frame to last.
- Stills
- Photography taken alongside the moving image, then processed and prepared so that it can sit beside the finished piece.
- Delivery
- Producing the masters and versions that were asked for, with the technical checks and paperwork that have to travel with them.
